D. Del Reverda-Jennings

As an Alaskan Native, Midwest-based Interdisciplinary Artist, D. Del Reverda-Jennings draws from a kaleidoscope of cultural nuance, experience, insight, and connection. Her visual research is a reflective interpretation of the feminine as a physical/spiritual entity that possesses the potential to be relevant, powerful, nurturing, limitless, while proudly baring the physical and emotional detritus bearing witness to life’s survival and ties to the past.

Each of these works are highly influenced by identity, women’s issues, colorism, social commentary, stereotypical assumptions, indigenous wisdom’s-folklore, ritual, myth, magic, ancestral memory and nature. The sensual, spiritual and the sacred manifest as material in the construct of her works.

Her multi-disciplinary practice has evolved to include an increasingly broad repertoire and in fashioning this work, she utilizes a wide spectrum of media and materials (steel to stone/paint to paper) integrating vibrant hues, organic patinas, complex surfaces, and incised reliefs, forged metal embellishments, handwrought treatments and emphasized textures.

The arts advocate and cultural worker’s creations have been exhibited internationally and are held in a number of private and corporate collections throughout the US, Canada, and the Caribbean including the Indianapolis Public Library, the Charles H. Wright Museum, collectors Mr. and Mrs.Cohen of Evanston, Illinois. The former Winona Hospital in Indianapolis, the internationally syndicated Home and Garden Television (HGTV), and the DIY Network.

An award-winning published journalist, arts editor, columnist, author, and poet, D. Del Reverda-Jennings is also the Founder/Independent Curator of “FLAVA FRESH ! ” a Midwest-based, Annual Juried, Exhibition Presentation Series of Contemporary Art. The multicultural, intergenerational series has been an acclaimed visual arts showcase for over twenty-three years, with the consecutive event venue having received a number of honors including the Arts Council of Indianapolis 2019 A Full Creative Life For All Award”.

Artist D. Del Reverda-Jennings discusses her artwork and inspiration at the Meet the Artist XXIX Gala at the Indianapolis Public Library in 2017.

When you make a step ahead and you do something well, try to reach back and bring someone with you and this is one of the things that has stuck with me through the years and this is what I am centered to do.
