Harriet Watson is a visual and tie-dye artist. Harriet is a member of the Eighteen Art Collective and painted the “A” in “Matter” in the “#Black Lives Matter” street mural in Indianapolis. After the mural, Harriet created Harriet Watson Art as a way to continue the artistry that came from the mural. Harriet decided to incorporate her love for tie-dye and typography to create clothes that started a conversation about social justice. Harriet also likes to paint portraits of herself and others that reflect the emotions that encompass being a young Black person in America. Harriet’s art is often inspired by the works of 70’s Black feminist artists such as Faith Ringgold and Adrian Piper.
