A BLUEPRINT FOR EQUITY IN THE ARTS

BUTTER Fine Art Fair powered by AES Indiana returned for its fifth iteration in August 2025, celebrating the works of emerging, mid-career, and established visual artists across the African diaspora as part of a new model for care and economic justice in the arts.

An immersive, multi-day fine art fair, BUTTER presents a new model for economic justice in the arts, showcasing the works of visual artists from Indiana and across the globe. Each year, the fair hosts thousands of guests to see and experience art and culture in new ways. As described by The New York Times, BUTTER Fine Art Fair serves as a new model for economic justice in the arts, aiming to sell or loan 100% of the exhibiting artworks, giving 100% of the proceeds to the artists.

Year five meant major milestones for BUTTER, with the fair surpassing the 1 million dollar mark in cumulative artwork sales.

“More regionally-focused fairs are thriving in cities like Dallas, but BUTTER, with its home-grown commitment to equity, is offering a different way of doing business, elevating marginalized voices.”

BUTTER Education Day

BUTTER Education Day

More than 4,000 students have participated in Education Day, a half-day experience designed for school trips and family visits. This year, 35 different school groups (K-8, high school, college) toured the exhibition with artists and curators before the show opened to the public, offering a sneak peek behind the scenes, encouraging creative futures in Indiana. Sponsorships and naming rights for 2026 BUTTER Education Day are available now.

MELT at BUTTER

MELT at BUTTER

Every year at BUTTER, Saturday night is reserved for a celebration of culture and good times. Naptown’s hottest dance party, MELT keeps the late-night vibes alive, featuring Indy’s best DJ’s, dancers, hosts, and drinks. Sponsorship opportunities are available for this popular 21+ nightclub event.

We want to forge a new, more equitable art ecosystem for Indianapolis that will sustain both its artists and its people, serving as a model for cities far and wide.
