Produce - promote - preserve

Culture-building Partnerships

In collaboration with Lilly and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, GANGGANG looked identify mural locations and artists that not only promote the narrative of racial equity but embody that narrative. Furthermore, GG worked through the logistics of mural approval and volunteer event production, including safety, PR, and fun. Ashley Nora and Kyng Rhodes even overcame weather obstacles by outline their mural at 4am before the project!

GANGGANG brought professional artists from the EIGHTEEN art collective to this project to facilitate mural production for over 40 Lilly employees at Big Brothers Big Sisters and Belmont Beach. With Lilly’s volunteer-power, Keep Indianapolis Beautiful’s coordination expertise, and artists Ashley Nora, Kyng Rhodes, Rebecca Robinson, and Shane “Fitz” Young, GG added another opportunity for participation in the creative economy.

An equitable approach to art and culture is not just about the subject matter. It is about who you hire and how participants experience culture in a new way through the project.

The enthusiasm and savvy of the Lilly volunteers led the day. They jumped-in to the project, many with no prior painting experience, and produced new public art for local organizations and our city. Many many partners in Indianapolis are interested in hosting cultural experiences of this kind.
